1937 Austin Big 7 Saloon.
The Austin Big 7 was introduced in 1937 to fill the gap between the baby Austin 7 and the big father Austin 10.
Supplied with a 4 speed manual gearbox. The 900 cc engine has a counterbalanced crankshaft, inclined valves and downdraught carburation which is ample to give a good performance. The Big 7 also has a 'luxury' electric windcreen wiper, pressed steel wheels and the rear lid of the spare wheel folds down to form a luggage carrying platform.
This 86 year old Big 7 has been with its last owner for 5 years and only 3 recorded former keepers. Finished in a lovely colour combination of black / burgundy it presents very well with a nice level of patina. Very nice coachwork with a solid chassis etc. The interior is very nice with excellent seats and headlining etc.
A full engine rebuild was carried out in 2017 including crank regrind and shells, new piston rings, timing chain, valve guides and recut valve seats etc.
The car starts on the button having just had an engine service including oil change, new plugs, coil, points and new battery. 12 volt charging system with new battery just fitted. A great little fun car car to experience and drive! The recorded mileage is 92000 miles.
This Big 7 has had modern style indicators fitted for safe driving in modern traffic. All nearly new original size crossply tyres. Original starting handle. Battery isolator switch. We have a copy of the original 'Autocar' Big 7 introduction brochure from 1937 giving full details and specification of the model.
Overhaul a very pretty, usable example just ready to enjoy summer days out at local car shows or rallies.
